When my mother was born, my grandparents bought a house in Bicknell, Indiana. A rocking chair was left behind in the house. My grandma rocked my mother in that rocking chair. She later passed it down to my mother when I was born, and my mother rocked me in it. When I had my daugther, my mother passed it on down the line to me.

Understandings, Love, Life...

I feel we look to others for an understanding. We're constantly looking to relate with another soul to feel a little less alone in this world...and then sometimes I feel we come across quotes, poems, a conversation, a passing moment, an idea that came to us on a late evening walk...I feel these moments happen as a source of inspiration in just the right times. Our lives need moments like these...

"Our lives are a flood of images and we are collectors who keep a strange assortment of images: moments of extreme emotion, pain, beauty, and fear stand out. Events we're taught to remember: weddings, graduations, births, deaths. Then there are the millions of images that we can't shake out of our heads, that come to us at strange times - things we can't remember why we remember: the gold threads in an old stereo speaker, the way the light hit a thousand cars in a parking lot by the water, the face of a stranger in a restaurant, a friend standing in a pool - you can't remember where, slapping the water with the flat of her hand. ...And then I think of my daughter, who is being baby-sat for the 4th of July weekend by her Aunt Lisa. She's not with me tonight and I miss her terribly. This house doesn't feel right without her. I don't feel right without her...
So I begin to look at photographs taken a few weeks ago...and my eyes begin to tear out of love for this little soul. Words could never describe how amazing of a soul she is. And I've learned to cherish every moment, the good and the bad...Because moments always pass faster than you ever really think they will.

A walk down the alley way...

I have this attraction towards allies. I think it's because they feel like a secret route that only the familiar know...they hold this feeling of ownership only to the block to which they belong. Sometimes I get an unwelcomed feeling in allies that are not my own...like I don't belong there. It's a silly feeling really. But we run our lives on feelings, so to me, it's a feeling that should not go ignored.
And perhaps that is why I have taken a few of my models down strange alley ways...to place them on un-wanted furniture, near dumpsters and trash cans.

Children fascinate me. They live in their own magical world where anything seems possible. As an adult, we lose that magic...We learn that not everything is possible. Sometimes I find myself missing that old childhood mind-set. I think that's why I turn to photography so much. Behind the lens of a camera, anything feels possible! Photography allows me to keep my imagination and to continue developing it. I am constantly searching for new ideas.
Maybe all artists are really just kids at heart...

Nature

A few years ago, my husband and I lived in the mountains in Colorado. The air was clean, the ground was rocky, the flowers were bright, the mountains were magnificant, the blue sky and warm sun were calming. I fell in love...my heart will always belong to the mountains. That's where I really got into taking photos of nature.

Here is a small preview of some of my nature photography, all taken in Breckenridge, CO. Photos are sold in 8x10's on glossy paper for $10 and framed photos are $15 (+S&H: $4.95). The frames have a black outline and push the photo forward to put more emphasis on the picture itself, and none on the frame.
